Ocean Angels receives the support of the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco

Nico and Maya's adventure is both a physical and emotional one cemented by the bond of friendship and a shared love of the sea. Our two young heroes are endlessly fascinated by the splendour, beauty, and majesty of life beneath the waves, but also understand how vital the ocean is to sustaining life on earth. Although young, they both show courage and determination beyond their years to fully engage in their quest and mission. They act on empathy and compassion for the ocean, relying on and trusting one another wholeheartedly to fulfil the task beset them.

At first, their journey is one of discovery, enjoying and celebrating the many splendours of the sea; the balletic elegance of manta rays, the acrobatic display of dolphins, the kaleidoscopic wonder of a coral reef in all its glory. However, with luminescent jelly fish lighting their way, they also travel to the dark and inky depths of the ocean, where spooky monster-like anglerfish lurk in the shadows, skeletal x-ray fish silently patrol the sea floor, where coral reefs are bleached a ghostly white. Here they discover a scrapyard of waste, from an old submarine to a stack of leaking chemical drums, a shameful dumping ground of neglect and the sickening effects of toxic pollution poisoning sea life.

Nico and Maya are determined to expose the vandalism of the ocean and help Mr Barron see there must be a different way of doing things. They accept that their journey will be difficult, but their environmental ‘call to arms’ is driven by a compassion for the ocean and the lifeforms within. It's also a celebration of traditional coastal communities that have existed for millennia the world over; ordinary people who cherish and respect their lifeblood, the sea.
